DESCRIPTION: Elgin Watch Co., Elgin, Illinois, grade 84, sweep seconds pocket watch, 16 size, 15 jewels, stem wind and lever set, adjusted, damascened, nickel plate movement with lever escapement and cut bimetallic balance in a coin silver, screw back and bezel, open face case, with Roman numeral, outer black 5-minute markers, white enamel dial, blued steel Breguet style hands, serial #1079216, c1885.
CONDITION: CASE: Shallow dents, back; Dings and pin pricks; Minor scratches on outer surface of case; Fine scratches on inner surface of case; Bow with minor wear; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: A few minor hairlines at edge, concealed by bezel. HANDS: Minor oxide, tip of minute. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Minor staining and spotting; Regulator with specks of oxide; Specks of dirt / dust. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Not running, broken mainspring, gummy, good staff, needs service; Friction in pendant causing crown to bind intermittently.
